Daytona Beach, FL
What is your sports & fitness background:
I grew up swimming, sailing, and playing tennis; all the sports you would expect from someone that grew up in Florida
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit:
A friend of mine from high school posted a photo of himself doing a snatch. He was always a little guy. He was definitely not little anymore. I asked him what he was doing. He told me it was CrossFit and that there was one in my area. So, I went to check it out.
What was your first WOD:
My first WOD was a series of Tabatas – air squats, push-ups and sit-ups
How did it go:
It was great. Mitchell was my coach and he was so kind and encouraging. I was immediately hooked.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit:
I am in much better shape now, at 40, then I was in my 20s. I am stronger and able to do things I would not have dreamed of before CrossFit.
What impact has CrossFit had on your life:
It has become my life. I own a gym and the majority of my closest friends I have met through CrossFIt.
What is your advice for people just getting started or thinking about starting CrossFit:
Anyone is capable of doing it. That is the beautiful thing about CrossFit. It is scale-able to your needs. CrossFit makes you better at whatever it is you want to do in life, whether it is being an MMA fighter or just picking up your grandchildren, it helps you do it better and more easily.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of CrossFit and does CrossFit help with those:
I like Mountain biking, hiking, and all sorts of water sports. It has made all of those much easier. I would not say I like running but I do it and it has made my recovery from my most recent half marathons much easier.
Do you have any pets:
Yes, I have a 4 year old rescue named Bullitt. She is awesome.
