SPCF: Where are you from originally?
Summer: Atlanta, Georgia
SPCF: How old are you?
SPCF: What is your occupation?
Summer: K-12 Curriculum Specialist
SPCF: When did you first start CrossFit
Summer: July 2010
SPCF: Can you tell us about your sports & fitness background?
Summer: Growing up I wasn’t athletic, but I’ve always taken some fitness class. Much of my fitness background has been step aerobics, jogging, and other group fitness classes.
SPCF: How did you first get exposed to CrossFit?
Summer: I wanted a challenge. I wanted to be a real athlete that moved beyond classes at a traditional gym. So, I Googled bootcamps and Crossfit was the first result. I promised myself that I would sign up that day after leaving work. My first WOD included squats, pushups, push presses and kettlebell swings. I was exhausted. It took me about fifteen minutes to catch my breath before I headed towards my car. Also, during this time I thought to myself what have I just signed up for and is it too late to ask for a refund. LOL! But everyone that day reminded me that it gets better and to come back.
SCPF: What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit?
Summer: Honestly, I came to Crossfit to lose weight and become more athletic. The initial change has been a 65 pound weight loss but that does not compare to the strength and endurance I’ve gained.
SCPF: What impact has CrossFit had on your life?
Summer: I am completely different person with more confidence. I have moved into other areas of fitness such as running and cycling.
SCPF: What is your advice for people just getting started or thinking about starting CrossFit?
Summer: Do not limit yourself. Southpoint Crossfit welcomes everyone on all fitness levels. Its not the physical gains that will have you coming back but the camaraderie and friendships that you develop.
